He Must Become Greater – a Resolution

happy new year

Being New Years Eve morning, I found myself thinking about resolutions for 2015. I’ve been big on creating long lists of resolutions in the past. This year, just one item is on my list…

As John the Baptist said, “He must become greater, I must become less.” (John 3:30)

My resolution, my hope and trust for 2015 is that the Holy Spirit of Jesus will become greater within me, and my “self” will become less. As Jesus continues to fill me with His Spirit, my selfish and self-centered self will become less of who CJ Penn is. And I’m so grateful.

I wish you all a great New Year, and hope that you too will find yourself filled with the Holy Spirit of our savior, Jesus.

I love writing - it gets me out of bed when it's way too dark, just so I can do some writing before heading off to work. I write because I’m passionate about God, Jesus, His Spirit, and His truth. And, I feel the Holy Spirit gets shortchanged in the world we call Christianity. The truth is sometimes lacking too.

I wish you also a great year ahead. It is my prayer also that I will allow the Holy Spirit to lead in my life that others will see Jesus in me.

This is a nice post. I totally agree that we must become less, so Jesus can become more.

This is great! So simple, yet so profound, something we all can remember going into the new year! I’ll be praying for you!

The “victory” for Satan in New Age thought that has seeped into a lot of Christian man-made theology (and other religions I have studied) is the idea that “self” and “soul” are the same (thus the whole “self-esteem” and “forgive myself” movement, which ends up in short-lived conceit and often suicide). I am glad to see someone getting it, that self is not the end-all, and Jesus’ example to us was to commend his “self” (spirit) to God and allow God’s Spirit to fill him and guide his ministry. We must follow his example to re-unite with our true Father and know our childlike souls again! Blessed be your New Year’s resolution!
