Here’s a thought that came to me this morning while I waited for the coffee to take effect. Satan is the prince of the world. Therefore, the world is ruled and dominated by Satan and his influence. Satan’s influence manifests itself as pride, greed, selfishness, self-centeredness, arrogance, conceit, hate, lies, violence, etc.
But then Jesus instructs His followers to pray, “Father, … Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” God’s will be done on earth—not Satan’s. Within this prayer we’re praying for God to kick Satan off his earthly throne. And with Satan dethroned, God can then take His rightful place on the throne as the Lord of the world.
Now with that thought, I really like the power and magnitude of that prayer. I like the promise that prayer holds for all of us. Just imagine being free from the influences of Satan. Imagine being ruled instead by the influences of God—His forgiveness, humility and love.
